Giving Attention to Employee Motivation Is Important

Giving Attention to Employee Motivation Is Important

By Sherri Yeary
Finding ways to increase employee motivation is vital for a business' success and it needs to be considered if it is lacking. When the morale is low among the workplace the employees will not be as productive, motivated or creative. Staying in business is what every owner wants so keeping employees happy should be their focus.

When improving the level of efficiency the employee's motivation will increase. An employee needs more than the qualifications and skills to be efficient at work; if they are not happy they won't do as well. The ability and willingness of an employee to do a job is a gap and needs to be filled.

If you focus on motivating your workers not only will you cut your expenses but the efficiency and productivity will excel. This can actually be seen within your company's bottom line, and the money you will save will more than pay for the extra efforts.

Employees need to be motivated positively and the organization's goals will be achieved. Your employees will improve their performance if they feel needed and are goal oriented. If upper management wants to employee motivation they too need to be motivated themselves. For employees to be more productive the boss and other management need to show their productivity being active in all levels of their business.

The employee morale can be low when there is pressure at work, meeting deadlines and more; staying positive can be difficult. The employees need to have a motivational plan made by the owner. Positive gestures such as bonuses, incentives and promotions are all examples of motivational tactics. Some managers have also discussed ideas such as giving disincentives.

An employee should be praised on a constant basis; a long period need not go by without motivation. Once a month something should be done, something simple like purchasing lunch for employees. It can be costly to purchase lunch for everyone in large companies so an employee of the month is another option. The employee will get more done at their job when there are awards given for such work!

Without employees a company will go out of business; happy employees will only profit a company because they will perform better in their jobs. An employee will not perform to the best of their ability if they are not appreciated or noticed. When a company decides to augment employee motivation and keep employees happy, it will surely strive.

By Dipti Ranawat

"The biggest challenge today is not just retaining talented people, but to fully engaging them in fruitful activities".

Employee engagement is the degree to which employees commit to something or someone in their organization. How hard one works and how long one stays as a result of that commitment defines level of employee engagement.

5 Ways to Give Praise

5 Ways to Give Praise

Research shows that 'appreciation for a job well done' consistently ranks highly as a motivator in employee surveys. Yet research also shows that most people don't feel they get enough praise. So what's going on?

Putting aside the fact that it's likely that some of our survey participants feel they should be praised for turning up every morning, my view is that managers are sometimes reluctant to give praise because they've had experiences of being praised themselves in ways that, frankly, haven't motivated them at all. And, of course, they're not over keen on having the same effect on their staff. It's actually quite easy to deliver praise badly – praise that is seen as patronising or manipulative by the recipient. But done well, its dynamite. Here are five ways to do it well

The Cost of Employee Turnover and How to Prevent It

Did you know that, according to several surveys, young employees stay with an employer for about 2 – 5 years while older employees may last from 5 to 9 years? Our society has become very mobile and the fear of changing jobs is not nearly as prevalent as it was in the past.

While you’re digesting those statistics, here’s another one. It costs anywhere from 50% to 200% of an employee’s annual salary to replace them! That’s right. The person who just walked out the door cost you a bunch of money.

Employee Engagement is a Habit (Well Two Habits Actually)

Encouraging and sustaining high levels of employee engagement means that you’re going to have to create many new habits for yourself. The first is going to be that you make a habit of booking appointments with yourself to do the required work. Your new title is “Employee Engagement Evangelist”and you can’t possibly fulfill that role effectively by doing a few odd jobs in your spare time.

In whatever calendar system you’re using, book a block of time, preferably the same time, every day to do the work of Employee Engagement Evangelist. Make a promise to yourself to keep those appointments and to make sure you do, tell everyone else that you have made this promise. They’ll help keep you honest.

Top 5 Strategies to Improve Employee Engagement and Productivity

Top 5 Strategies to Improve Employee Engagement and Productivity

By Njanja Mathu Gakuru

Bob was sipping his coffee and reviewing each of his employees. It was that time of the quarter when he spent some time looking at how each one of them had performed the previous quarter.

Most of the employees’ performance seemed pretty much the same over the year but he noticed that Tom’s performance had shifted. He had contributed less, hardly volunteered for any team assignments and his work was average.

This was not the Tom he knew; the Tom who was always willing to go the extra mile. This Tom had turned average and Bob needed to do something about that. (This is a scenario and does not represent an actual event).

When your top employees show signs of disconnect it is time to take some action to turn that around. The action you take will retain those committed high performing employees that may be going through a slow spell but you can also expect to make decisions about those that do not or are unable to improve. Below are five strategies you can implement to improve engagement and productivity.
